This week, we are excited to present the next chapter in our ongoing METAL GEAR soundtrack series, with two all-new vinyl releases: First up, the amazing soundtrack to the first sequel in Hideo Kojima's long-running espionage series - METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE.
Second, we will be releasing a super-limited pressing of the technically unofficial sequel to the NES version of METAL GEAR titled SNAKE'S REVENGE. Both available on vinyl for the first time ever, and both featuring artwork by Oliver Barrett.
As always, all new releases go on sale on Wednesdays at Noon, CST at MondoRecordShop.com.
NEW RELEASES:
METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE - ORIGINAL VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACK 2XLP
Mondo, in conjunction with Konami, is proud to present the premiere US physical release of the soundtrack to 1990s espionage classic, METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE.
Hideo Kojima's direct, chronological sequel to the original MSX2 version of Metal Gear (not to be confused with the NES, ULTRA Games version of Metal Gear ... nor is this title to be confused with its unofficial sequel SNAKE'S REVENGE), Solid Snake tells the story of our previously retired hero's infiltration of Zanziberland to rescue a kidnapped Bio-Engineer ... and ultimately destroy the latest Metal Gear. Audio-wise, it features a step up on audio quality from its predecessor; the soundtrack to Solid Snake is a melodic, and dynamic synth soundtrack album that is heavily inspired by the synthwave soundtracks of '80s action and horror films.
Pressed on 2x 180 Gram Color Vinyl (also available on 2x 180 gram Black vinyl) and featuring artwork by Oliver Barrett.
SNAKE'S REVENGE - ORIGINAL VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACK LP
Mondo is proud to present a limited edition vinyl pressing of the soundtrack to the unofficial sequel: Snake's Revenge (Metal Gear II) - limited to 1,000 copies.
The North American and European version of Metal Gear was developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System hardware without original creator Hideo Kojima, varying from the original story and gameplay to best suit the different hardware. Similarly, the quickly developed sequel is a time-capsule of the gaming industry of the 80's - a successful and fairly popular game at the time that retroactively is now considered unofficial, and stricken from the canon.
The soundtrack to Snake's Revenge is great on its own, completely different from what would later be released as the official sequel - Metal Gear II: Solid Snake. It feels like a true "What If" scenario that global audiences have been able to archive, not too far off from the two versions of Super Mario Bros. 2. And while the North American SMB2 has plenty of defenders and fans, we are here to celebrate the black sheep of the Metal Gear series with a limited edition vinyl pressing.
Pressed on 180 Gram Tri-Color vinyl, limited to 1,000 Copies, and featuring artwork by Oliver Barrett.

METAL GEAR - Original MSX2 Video Game Soundtrack 10-Inch
Mondo is proud to present the premiere physical release of the soundtrack to the MSX2 version of the classic game that started it all: METAL GEAR.
The Metal Gear series began in 1987 in Japan, and while it took decades for this original MSX2 version to make its official debut in the United States (the Ultra Games NES version is disavowed by series creator Hideo Kojima) it is considered one of the essential games to come out of the 80's. While not the first to implement Stealth mechanics in gaming, METAL GEAR certainly popularized the genre, and served as the launch pad for a decades spanning franchise of games considered some of the greatest of all time.
