What will MondoCon be like? What can I expect? Will I have any fun at this thing?

Hey everyone –

MondoCon is coming up in a couple weeks and we wanted to touch base with you guys before you arrive. We’ve announced guests, panels, screenings and a few releases, but questions remain: What will MondoCon be like? What can I expect? Will I have any fun at this thing? Can I bring my dog?

As we mentioned in our initial announcement a few months back, MondoCon is an attempt to make our ideal convention a reality. We’ve attended a lot of conventions throughout the years, and for MondoCon we took what we’ve loved, deleted what we’ve not loved, and added what we’ve wanted, to make the weekend something special. Big dreams and expectations aside, this is the first time we’ve put on an event of this size, so we’ll be the first to admit that there are things for us to learn. We thank you guys so much for trusting us thus far.

MondoCon, at its core, is a place to gather together our favorite artists, composers, directors, illustrators, painters, and fellow enthusiasts. We will have two exhibit halls featuring over fifty incredible guests who will be showing off and selling posters, original art, soundtracks, toys, and other products. You’ll be able to chat with artists, get things signed, purchase stuff, and just hang out around cool art. We hand-picked Austin’s best food trucks with MondoCon food and drink specials; we’ll have a bar inside where you can lounge around and meet new people; there will be live screen-printing where you can see how the magic happens; there will be a large Mondo booth outside with many different releases.

In addition to all of this, we will have panels and screenings throughout the weekend. Yesterday we released tickets for these events online, and due to the capacity of the venue’s theater there were a limited number of seats available. We have received some disconcerted emails regarding this and we completely understand any disappointment and/or frustration if you were unable to secure a ticket.

Many of you asked why we sold tickets for panels and screenings online before the convention. For those of you who have been to conventions before, you know how much of a bummer it is to wait in line for a panel for 5 hours and then not get in. It’s kind of soul-crushing. We’ve definitely been there, and it’s one of the things we wanted to change at MondoCon. With this ticketing method, nobody wastes their time in line. That being said - each panel and screening willhave a stand-by line for any unoccupied seats, so you’ll still have a chance to get in. As with any system, we understand there are drawbacks, but we really believe it will improve the overall feel of the weekend. Every decision we make is with you in mind.

We are so excited to see you all in a few weeks. It’s been a pleasure to put this Con together for you guys and we really think it’ll be worth it.

Also, no dogs will be allowed on the Convention floor.*
