Seventeen days and counting, it’s almost time for MondoCon. Posters are being printed, last minute travel arrangements are being made and we are stoked! So here we go with another round of updates for you.
We’ll start again with the artist updates. Unfortunately, Craig Drake and Vance Kelly can no longer attend, however, Rory Kurtz has gone through his flat files and found some gems, so he will now have a full booth at The Palmer. We also have our friends at Fangoria coming to hang out and spread the gospel of horror!
As we mentioned, our posters are starting to arrive and we wanted to give everyone a heads up on how the Mondo Booth will work this year. Similar to our line this past year at SDCC, when doors open, we will fill the line to capacity and once capped we will hand out timed vouchers to return. Vouchers are good for one hour from the time they are marked. For example, if you have a 3pm voucher, you have until 3:59pm to get in line. We want to make sure everyone gets the full convention experience, and this system should free up a lot of time for everyone.
How about some screening info? We will have screenings Friday September 13th, Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th. All of the screenings will be announced on Wednesday September 4th and will go on sale Friday September 6th at 12pm (CT), with a limit of 2 tickets per person, per screening. In the interest of fairness to MondoCon attendees, the ticket pages will only be accessible via a link that is emailed out to all MondoCon ticket holders 48 hours in advance, so please don't share the link with anyone who isn't attending the convention.
Screening attendees must have both a ticket to that screening and a MondoCon wristband for that day when they arrive at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar theater. (Two-Day for Friday & Saturday, Two-Day or Sunday Only for Sunday).
Next up is food. Check out this list of great food that will be on site, as well as in the surrounding area!
On site, Southside Flying Pizza is pulling up to The Palmer with an incredible menu featuring Pizza by the Slice (or whole), Pasta, Wings and PIZZA ROLLS! Southside Pizza will have plenty of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
We’ve also got Peached Tortilla bringing a literal truckload of awesome tacos to MondoCon. Options will include BBQ Brisket w/ Apple Slaw and Chinese BBQ Tacos, as well as Cauliflower Tacos for our veggie crowd.
And finally, Lucky Lab Coffee will be on site and operational early each day so everyone in line can get properly hydrated and caffeinated by Austin’s own Third Coast Coffee. There will be a variety of beverages including Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Iced Coffee and more.
If you’re looking for a change of scenery, there are several options within close proximity to The Palmer Events Center that everyone can walk to including Terry Black’s BBQ, El Alma (Mexican Food), High Note (Locally sourced health conscious food), Whataburger (a Texas staple), Green Mesquite BBQ, Nuha’s Sinful Desserts (7 cookies based on the 7 deadly sins), Starbucks and more!
There is no better way to wash down all that delicious food than with infamous Con Beer! We're back with another installment in Con Beer series from world-class (and GABF award-winning) homies, Austin Beerworks. Con Beer 2019 (4.5% abv) takes a classic beer style, the Belgian Witbier, and gives it a new spin, the likes of which you've never had before! Con Beer 2019 uses new-school hopping methods, new wave hops and perhaps most notably, a mutant powered Norwegian farmhouse yeast called "kveik" that has been hiding in Scandinavia for generations but is just now making exciting waves in America. True to style, there is coriander and orange peel but this version of a Wit has major notes of pineapple/overripe tropical fruit notes and stone fruit. Con Beer 2019 is smashable but loaded with limited-edition flavor. Be sure to snag a refreshing pint when you're roaming the Con floor or posted up at the Alamo watching a screening because, when it's gone, it's gone.
