New Music Release: THE INVITATION

Hello Everyone! Today we are back to business with the first of several new releases this April: the score and soundtrack to an excellent thriller called The Invitation which opens this Friday in select theaters and VOD.

As always, new releases go live on our site at 12PM CST on Wednesdays.

The Invitation - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
Music by Theodore Shapiro. Featuring two original songs by Craig Wedren & Benjamin Newgard. Liner notes by director Karyn Kusama. Artwork by Jay Shaw. Photography by Carli Davidson. Pressed on 180 Gram Colored Vinyl (one time pressing limited to 500 copies). On sale Wednesday (4/6). $25

Mondo is proud to present Theodore Shapiro’s soundtrack to Karyn Kusama’s haunting thriller The Invitation. The film takes place over the course of one night as a group of old friends gather for a reunion, which includes two divorcees (Will & Eden, complete with new partners in tow). During the course of the meal, tensions and paranoia overflow as old wounds are opened and friendships tested. The atmosphere burns with a slow sense of dread as Will becomes ever more paranoid with each passing conversation, alienating himself from those around him.

The beauty of the film is that by the time you think you have it figured out, it turns around and slaps you clean in the face. The score by Theodore Shapiro is an integral part of the terror and darkness of The Invitiation, andit easily stands head and shoulders as a true horror score. It’s quiet yet unnerving and disquieting. If you loved the sparseness of The Witch, then The Invitation is definitely for you...but we won’t take responsibility if you spin it late at night and end up cowering in the corner.

Composer Theodore Shapiro said, "The Invitation perfectly captures something essential about life in Los Angeles. The score mostly functions in the film as the voice of dread, haunted memories, and grief that sits underneath the surface of a dinner party in the hills of LA. The music follows the film in its descent from uneasiness towards true terror.”

Slasher Dave's Exorcisms. Originallyreleased by Bellyache Records. Limited to 500 copies only and contains a download code. On sale Wednesday (4/6). $20

Released by the excellent Bellyache Records, Slasher Dave has taken a detour from his usual 80s inspired synth horror to delve way back into the 70s, offering up a set of songs that wouldn’t be out of place in something like Rosemary’s Baby or The Omen. Heavy on atmosphere, loaded with pianos and 70s attitude - you can almost hear the Devil calling you throughout its 13 tracks.

Dark Star - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Released by We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records. Music by John Carpenter. 12-Inch LP + Bonus 7-Inch. Limited to 500 Copies. On sale Wednesday (4/6). $30

WRWTFWW Records is bringing back the original motion picture soundtrack for John Carpenter’s Dark Star (1974) with added bonuses that are sure to satisfy all cult sci-fi soundtrack completists of the galaxy (and further). The limited edition double combo comes with a 12" and a 7". The former is a remastered version of the original motion picture soundtrack consisting of incidental music, sound effects, John Carpenter’s synth experimentations, dialogue excerpts, and vintage interferences extracted directly from the film roll.

It all comes in slick thermostellar triggering packaging with a brand new artwork and invisible hyperdrive electronics - the best way to relive the Dark Star adventure and celebrate John Carpenter’s first directorial feature film released in 1974 and co-written by (and starring!) all around legend Dan O’Bannon (Alien, Lifeforce, The Return of the Living Dead). Let there be light!
