I lived in Kansas City up until 2006 or so. Moving to Austin to work at the Drafthouse was one of the best things that ever happened to me. When I first got down here, I went to like EVERY screening at the Colorado St location. That's where I first met Tim League, Zack Carlson, Rodney Perkins, Eric Vespe, Lars Nilsen, etc. There were A LOT of guys that knew A LOT more than me at the Drafthouse and it was awesome because I was constantly getting clued into films and other things that I might like.
Here are the top 5 movies i heard about when I first got down (in no particular order)...
1. GOKE: BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL
2. THE MAGIC CHRISTMAS TREE
3. STUNT ROCK
4. SNAKES
5. THE VISITOR
Whenever one of these would be on a Weird Wednesday or (then) Terror Thursday, you could definitely see a charge go through that cinephile community. When THE VISITOR came on the schedule, it was like a rockstar walked into the room. This was something special and I really didn't understand. If you've ever tried to explain THE VISITOR to someone who hasn't seen it, you'll know that it's pretty much impossible without sounding insane.
When I finally watched it, I was completely confused. It took several viewings to really get it to make sense (is that possible?,) but the thing that made sense from the first frame was the music. So, when Tim League mentioned that Drafthouse Films was getting THE VISITOR, it was a natural reaction to ask for the okay to put the soundtrack out.
This is a very special score, and I hope you give these SoundCloud tracks a listen. Heck, I found myself playing and replaying them when we first uploaded it. Like with our DEADLY SPAWN release, here is a movie that isn't very well known, but the music is remarkable. Help spread the word that this exists and that good music is still out there to be found. We will be premiering this record for sale at TEXAS FRIGHTMARE WEEKEND up in Dallas. They will be available on our webstore beginning May 9th.
