At the turn of the 20th century, Georges Méliès blew the world’s collective minds with the first ever science-fiction movie A TRIP TO THE MOON.
Inspired by the works of Jules Verne, LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE culminates in an alien battle and escape and invented radical practical effects and camera techniques that would help shape the future of film.
We are proud to celebrate Méliès’ masterpiece of cinema with a pair of new posters by artist Jonathan Burton. Jonathan’s work is so often elegant and fantastical, with a lush body of work ranging from ornate Folio Society hardbacks to gorgeous Universal Monsters screenprints.
Like the film itself, these posters are available in two versions: a monochrome regular edition as well as a color variant edition inspired by the film’s hand-colored print (yet another technical marvel of the film engineered by frequent Méliès collaborators and French mother/daughter duo Élisabeth Thuillier and Marie Berthe-Thuillier).
LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE celebrated its 120th anniversary last year, and still, it remains a masterpiece that shows the might and magic of moving pictures.
