The most gruesome weapon ever conceived!
Better late than never… in 1976 director Jimmy Wang Yu gifted the world one of the greatest torchbearers of Hong Kong kung fu cinema, with the brilliant and brazen
MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE. The film was a sequel to Wang’s 1971 feature, THE ONE-ARMED BOXER, and its premise is simple: The One Armed Boxer has killed two disciples of a blind Tibetan monk (and flying guillotine master), and the monk travels to a village to enter a tournament where he vows to take revenge on any one armed man who crosses his path. From there it’s all extravagance in full gonzo glory.
We are truly excited to have partnered with a few legendary comic artists on a new poster for the film:
Denys Cowan,
Bill Sienkiewicz, and
Chris Sotomayor.
Denys handled the artwork and pencils, with Bill handling inks and finally, Chris bringing it all the madness to life in glorious color. We are lifelong fans of all three of these artists and are excited to have worked together on such a fun project.
The poster will be available in both a regular English edition, as well as a Cantonese variant.
We are also excited to share that our friends at the Alamo Drafthouse will have an additional UK quad variants (landscape orientation) available exclusively at their Staten Island theater that opens in July. This theater is home to a kung fu museum and themed bar, appropriately named The Flying Guillotine, and curated by the brilliant RZA. Follow
@AlamoNYC for more updates on this variant and Staten Island opening.
