In case you missed it, this past Friday we premiered our first foray into Phase 4 of the MCU with the premiere vinyl pressing of Lorne Balfe's score to MARVEL'S BLACK WIDOW. We also re-stocked Mark Mothersbaugh's score to MARVEL'S THOR: RAGNAROK.
This week, we are proud to release a long out-of-print, premiere re-issue of the funky soundtrack to the 1975 film LORD SHANGO from our friends at Tidal Waves Music, on an exclusive color for the MondoRecordShop.
MARVEL'S BLACK WIDOW and MARVEL'S THOR RAGNAROK are on sale now. LORD SHANGO will go on sale Wednesday at Noon CST at
MARVEL'S BLACK WIDOW - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP
Mondo Music, in conjunction with Hollywood Records, is proud to present the premiere vinyl pressing of Lorne Balfe’s score to the highly anticipated MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK WIDOW.
Lorne Balfe's first MCU score is a force to be reckoned with. He's no stranger to crafting propulsive music for espionage epics (just listen to his masterful score to MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT) and his take on BLACK WIDOW is no exception. Balfe blends Russian choirs and soloists, with delicate and haunting piano and acoustic guitar; swirling strings with his trademark layered percussion. Balfe is incredibly elastic, delivering a beautiful score for this long-awaited chapter in Natasha Romanov's story.
Pressed on 2x 180 Gram colored vinyl (this butterfly, splatter effect is exclusive to the Mondo Record Shop) and housed in a gatefold sleeve, kick-start Phase Four with the latest in our ongoing celebration of the music of the MCU.
Marvel's Black Widow - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Lorne Balfe. Package design by Mo Shafeek. Pressed on 2x 180 Gram Colored Vinyl. Also available on 2x 180 Gram Black Vinyl. Featuring liner notes by composer Lorne Balfe and director Cate Shortland. $35
MARVEL'S THOR RAGNAROK - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP
Skillfully weaving the sonic landscape of the high fantasy genre with otherworldly synth, Mark Mothersbaugh's instantly-iconic score is available once again on vinyl, on a limited 2XLP pressing featuring stunning illustrations by Yuta Onoda.
Not scary enough to be horror, too supernatural to be drama, with far too many animal sacrifices to be a romance, LORD SHANGO represented a solemn, contemplative, spiritual alternative to the sort of “exploitative” sex and violence-laden criminal storylines that gave Blaxploitation its name.
The soundtrack to LORD SHANGO has it all! Expect hypnotic Yoruba drums, call-and-response chants, spiritual belting gospel choirs with Doo-wop backings…to more contemporary R&B jams with an easy-going Al Green soul-vibe, blazing funk (the more ‘stereotypical’ Blaxploitation sound), an array of fantastic jazz permutations, soothing piano ballads combined with cool mid-tempo horns…and even ‘loungy’ Latin fusion jazz-funk. This album is a must-have piece of art that just begs for a place in every serious soundtrack collectors’ collection.
Originally released in 1975 on Bryan Records (the musical division of Bryanston Pictures) it has since then become a hard to find collectable record that fetches high prices on the second hand market. Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents the first official reissue of Howard Robert’s classic soundtrack to LORD SHANGO.
This unique album comes as a deluxe 180g vinyl edition featuring the original artwork. Also included is a double-sided insert featuring original movie stills and lengthy-exclusive liner notes by renowned Blaxploitation author Mark H. Harris. Limited to 100 copies 180g BROWN vinyl (Mondo Exclusive).
