Music Weekly: MANIAC, DEATHGASM, MONSTER SQUAD & RATS!
News

Hey all,

Well... MondoCon was awesome. If you didn’t come out this year, then you really should try and attend in 2017. You can cosy up to your favorite labels, artists and composers, not to mention all the live performances, screenings and signings happening. It's really a special time. Special thanks to all of the labels who attended. We are part of a truly tremendous community of independent labels, and it's an honor to be a part of it.

This week we have a few releases from MondoCon to share with y'all. The Monster Squad, Maniac, and DEATHGASM, as well as a brand new digital release of the soundtrack to the forthcoming documentary Rats.

As always all new releases go on sale on Wednesday at NOON (CST).

MONDO
Maniac - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
Original score by Jay Chattaway. Pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl. Mondo exclusive clear blue vinyl with white & red splatter. Artwork by Randy Ortiz. $25

An absolutely phenomenal, sleazy synth score from Jay Chattaway perfectly capturing the unease and grime of Times Square in its pre-Disney clean-up era. Its minimal synth lines, full to the brim with dark brooding menace, exaggerated ring modulations and discordant strings manage to echo the utter despare of Joe Spinell's character on screen.

This stands head and shoulders above similar 80's synth scores which often riffed on John Carpenter's Halloween score a little too much. Maniac sees Chattaway going wild, adding layers of noise & dialogue into the mix, giving the score an utterly claustrophobic feel that manages to be both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. This is a genuinely uncomfortable listen and it is easy to see why it has become such a classic amongst synth-heads and horror fans alike.

DEATH WALTZ
DEATHGASM - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Music by Cover art by Sam Turner. Disc One pressed on 180 Gram Black vinyl with Silver Splatter, Disc Two pressed on 180 Gram White Vinyl with Black Splatter.. $35

DEATHGASM (lower case is for pussies).

Full disclosure, we LOVE Jason Lei Howden’s love letter to early Peter Jackson. It has the same sort of scrappy feel as Bad Taste complete with outrageous splatter effects but with a super sweet central love story. And metal... lots of metal.

The heavy metal zom com is currently airing on Netflix, so go check it out if you haven't seen it yet. The record is pressed on 2x 180g vinyl with cover art by Sam Turner and features tracks from heavy metal’s finest Emperor, Axeslasher, Nuslaughter, Beast wars and many more.

The Monster Squad - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP.
