NEW THIS WEEK

METAL GEAR - Original MSX2 Video Game Soundtrack 10-Inch. Music by Konami Kukeiha Club. Original Artwork by Paul Mann. Pressed on Heavy Weight Camouflage vinyl. Expected to Ship in 7-10 Business Days. Ships Worldwide. $20

Mondo is proud to present the premiere physical release of the soundtrack to the classic game that started it all: METAL GEAR for the MSX2.

The METAL GEAR series began in 1987 in Japan, and while it took decades for this original MSX2 version to make its official debut in the United States (the Ultra Games NES version is disavowed by series creator Hideo Kojima) it is considered an essential game of the '80s. And while not the first to implement stealth in gaming, METAL GEAR certainly popularized the genre and served as the launch pad for a two-decade long franchise of games considered some of the greatest of all time.

This premiere physical release of the soundtrack is cut at 45RPM, and features all new original artwork by Paul Mann that pays tribute to the '80s action films that inspired the game, and is pressed on heavyweight Camouflage colored vinyl.

The soundtrack to the US / NES Version of the game, featuring different artwork, is also available.

METAL GEAR - Original NES Video Game Soundtrack 10-Inch. Music by Konami Kukeiha Club. Original Artwork by Paul Mann. Pressed on Heavy Weight Split-Colored vinyl. Strictly One off pressing of 1,000 units. Expected to Ship in 7-10 Business Days. Ships Worldwide. $20

Mondo is proud to present the premiere physical release of the soundtrack to the 1988 NES version of the classic game that started it all: METAL GEAR.

Retroactively considered unofficial by both the game's creator and fans, the American release of METAL GEAR is one of the few black sheep of the legacy franchise. But for some it was the entry point to one of the most essential game series of all time. And due to the technical limitations of the system itself, the soundtrack to the NES version differs from the MSX2 version, solidifying it as a unique, if flawed departure from the developers original intent.

This premiere physical release of the soundtrack is cut at 45RPM, and features all new original artwork by Paul Mann, this limited-edition release is pressed on heavyweight split colored vinyl, and strictly limited to 1,000 copies.

The soundtrack to the MSX2 Version, featuring different artwork, is also available.

DISTRIBUTED TITLES

RADIANT SILVERGUN - Original Video Game Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Hitoshi Sakimoto. Distributed by Data Discs. Pressed on 2X 180 Gram Orange vinyl. Also available on 2X 180 Gram Black vinyl. Expected to Ship in January 2020. Ships Worldwide. $30

Data Discs, in partnership with acclaimed Japanese game developer Treasure, are thrilled to announce their RADIANT SILVERGUN vinyl edition.

Originally released in 1998, in the arcades, and for the SEGA Saturn console, RADIANT SILVERGUN is widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters ever made. As a testament to the game’s inventiveness and unique aesthetic, RADIANT SILVERGUN has maintained a legendary status and cult-following for decades, despite not being officially released outside of Japan until 2011, when a HD remaster was published on the XBOX 360 Live Arcade.

With its surprisingly complex mechanics, blending traditional shoot 'em up elements with puzzle-like gameplay, RADIANT SILVERGUN subverted audience expectations and defied genre conventions. This unorthodox approach also extended to its musical score, which was composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto (whose other works include FINAL FANTASY XII and FINAL FANTASY TACTICS). Whereas other shooters at the time had been accompanied by frenzied and bombastic scores, Sakimoto took an entirely different approach for RADIANT SILVERGUN. What begins as a stoic and determined score of recurring motifs, featuring percussion, strings and bells, slowly descends into an unexpectedly reflective and ambient score, with choral passages and a sense of minimalism that completely juxtaposes, but oddly complements, the frantic intensity of the game. There is no grandiose battle theme at the end, nor triumphant crescendo, nor glory. Just stillness and life. And there is life everywhere.

RADIANT SILVERGUN is presented as a remastered double 180 Gram LP, with the first disc featuring Hitoshi Sakimoto’s original compositions and the second focusing on the SEGA Saturn versions. The package includes a double-sided lithographic print and a foldout poster, showcasing original and rare artwork from Treasure’s archive. Available on Translucent Orange or Black vinyl.

SCROOGED - Music From the Motion Picture LP. Music by Danny Elfman. Distributed by Enjoy the Ride Records. Pressed on 140 Gram Clear with Cigar Smoke Colored Vinyl. Expected to Ship in December 2019. Ships Worldwide. $25

Enjoy The Ride Records and Paramount Pictures are proud to present the Danny Elfman score to SCROOGED, available for the first time on vinyl. The iconic '80s holiday dramedy is based on the classic Charles Dickens novel, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and is directed by Richard Donner (THE GOONIES, LETHAL WEAPON films, TALES FROM THE CRYPT), features Bill Murray, Bobcat Goldthwait, David Johansen, Carol Kane and a host of other Hollywood veterans. The score is a real treat to revisit, as you can hear many elements that would become the iconic Elfman sound in future projects, such as BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS, Tim Burton's THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and TALES FROM THE CRYPT. The score jumps all over, from cheery holiday tunes to dark and sinister sounds, perfectly capturing the story depicted in the film. This vinyl release is pressed on 140 Gram Colored vinyl, housed in a 350gsm jacket that features the iconic Bill Murray promo image and includes an insert, featuring credits and production shots. The album also contains bonus tracks and source cues for your listening pleasure.
