This week's releases are unique but amazing. Starting it off, we have a collaboration with Z2 Comics, a super-limited, deluxe edition graphic novel with a vinyl EP titled MURDER BALLADS that you won't want to miss. We are also releasing the soundtrack to the VHS collecting documentary REWIND THIS! with an absolutely kick ass score by Josh Freda that we have had percolating for a while now. We love being able to shine a light on independent movies and super stoked to finally be releasing this.
SILENT HILL fans, we are restocking Black Vinyl copies of our 2XLP soundtrack this Wednesday. Additionally, if you live near Houston TX, we encourage you to check out Re:Play Expo, where SILENT HILL composer Akira Yamaoka will be performing live, as well as signing autographs! Mondo won't be there selling anything, but we will be there hanging out so come say "Hi!" (more details at http://replayxpo.com).
And finally, celebrate the premiere of the all new season of TWIN PEAKS with our 2XLP deluxe re-issue of the soundtrack to TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME.
MONDO
Murder Ballads - Deluxe Edition Comic / 10" EP (PRE-ORDER). Written by Gabe Soria. Artwork by Paul Reinwand and Chris Hunt. Music by Robert Finley and Dan Auerbach. Limited to 500 Copies Worldwide. $200.
Please Note: this item does not ship until October 2017.
Mondo and Z2 Comics are proud to present the original score to the musical noir graphic novel MURDER BALLADS, composed and produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and featuring vocals by iconic bluesman Robert Finley. This limited edition box set contains the score on heavyweight, colored 10" vinyl, the full 160-page graphic novel written by Gabe Soria and illustrated by Paul Reinwand and Chris Hunt, and three exclusive prints by artist Tyler Boss. The entire collection will be housed in a custom clamshell box with exclusive painted art by Jon Langford of The Mekons.
MURDER BALLADS follows the fall and reinvention of Nate Theodore, the dead-broke and deadbeat owner of a failed record label who is on a cross-country drive in the dead of winter with his wife Mary, fleeing the wreckage of their business and heading towards the destruction of their marriage. But Nate is given an unexpected chance to redeem himself when, during an unscheduled detour, he "discovers" Donny and Marvell Fontweathers, two African-American brothers who play a singular version of doom-laden country blues.
Dan Auerbach and Robert Finley recorded the original score for the book at Easy Eye Studios in Nashville, collaborating with writer Gabe Soria to weave the story's narrative into the music, resulting in an organic marriage of sound, narrative and graphic image.
Limited to 500 copies, and available only through Mondo. You can listen to the first track of the EP here.
DEATH WALTZ
Rewind This! Original Soundtrack. Music by Josh Freda. Artwork by Hollis Brown Thornton. Limited to 550 copies on 180g colored vinyl. Housed inside a 425gsm sleeve. Includes download card. $25
REWIND THIS! is a must-see documentary about the home video boom of the 1980s and the tape collectors obsessing, preserving and cataloging the format today. Josh Freda’s incredible synth score perfectly captures all aspects of '80s videotape culture; an album full of music recalling cheesy action synth riffs, moody horror stings and neon drenched nighttime radios. This isn’t some hollow retro futuristic re-tread of the '80s, though, as Freda manages to inject so much personality and playfulness into his music that even through the barrage of synths in play it sounds ultra contemporary and very human indeed. Includes the lo-fi punk gem ‘Head Cleaner' by Joey Division as a bonus track, and the artwork is by the kickass Hollis Brown Thornton that we have been wanting to work with for an age.
Also available on Bandcamp.
BACK IN STOCK
Silent Hill - Original Video Game Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Konami Digital Entertainment. Artwork by Sam Wolfe Connelly. Pressed on 180 Gram Black Vinyl. $30
Set in the eponymous town of SILENT HILL, you play as Harry Mason after a car crash leaves you stranded and searching for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl. But this town is not what it seems, and Harry quickly discovers that his daughter's disappearance may be a connected to the town's mysterious cult activity.
Don't let the tone of the plucky mandolin driven opening track fool you; this is one of the most haunting soundtracks we've ever released. Full of hair-raising, pulse-pounding, industrial cues, the soundtrack to SILENT HILL is the stuff of nightmares. Which is important, since SILENT HILL (and its subsequent sequels) has its feet planted firmly in the legacy of survival horror gaming.
