Hi everyone - super excited about this week. Mondo is thrilled to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Luc Besson’s cult classic THE FIFTH ELEMENT, with a re-issue of the soundtrack, available for the first time on vinyl.
On top of that, we have three great distributed titles: one from our friends at Black Screen Records (DEAR ESTHER) called HUE, and two records by pioneering electronic band Popol Vuh from our friends over at One Way Static (these are super limited with only 300 being pressed worldwide on these exclusive colorways). We’re thrilled that we’ll be offering exclusive colorways of all of One Way Statics’ future releases.
Also, in case you missed it, last week we unveiled the soundtrack to Aziz Ansari’s critically acclaimed Netflix Original Series MASTER OF NONE, available for pre-order now!
As always, all new releases go on sale Wednesday at NOON (CST).
MONDO
The Fifth Element - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP (PRE-ORDER). Music by Eric Serra. Original Artwork by Shan Jiang. Re-Mastered for Vinyl. Available on 2x 180 Gram White with Orange Striped Vinyl - or - 2x 180 Gram "Super Green" Vinyl (limited to 500 copies). $35
THE FIFTH ELEMENT is essential science fiction cinema. Dystopian in concept, but optimistic in message, Luc Besson gracefully threads the needle of making an epic film that's equal parts action adventure, bubble-gum camp, and passionate plea for love above all things.
Composed by Eric Serra (LA FEMME NIKITA, GOLDENEYE, LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL), the music for the film goes above and beyond the duties of your average film score. Not only is the soundtrack responsible for carrying the wildly vast tonal spectrum - name another film that bounces sonically from comedic montage, to straight-faced Opera to action adventure in the span of 15 minutes - but he makes it feel, and sound effortless. It is a truly unique listening experience.
PLEASE NOTE: Orders containing THE FIFTH ELEMENT will begin shipping at the end of May 2017.

Popol Vuh - Agape-Love. Released on One Way Static. Limited to 300 copies worldwide on Green/Brown Swirl vinyl (Exclusive Colorway). $25
AGAPE-LOVE was one of Florian Fricke’s favorites at a point in his life where he was inspired by 13th century Persian poet Rumi. Still utilizing a choir for Gregorian chant-like ethereal intensity - though they sing in Byzantine scales - the band delves deeply into the drone world of Fricke’s sacred music muse. This is an album of many moods/feelings and is a worthy, devastatingly beautiful outing (both introspective and intense at the same time).
Out of print since 1983 and never released outside of Europe, now back available as a gorgeously packaged deluxe vinyl edition. This release also comes with an exclusive bonus track and an insert with extensive liner notes.

Popol Vuh - Spirit of Peace. Released on One Way Static. Limited to 300 copies worldwide on Pink/Silver Swirl vinyl (Exclusive Colorway). $28
Originally released in 1985, SPIRIT OF PEACE is the fifteenth album by pioneering electronic band Popol Vuh. The first track was used by Werner Herzog as original motion picture soundtrack for his documentary THE DARK GLOW OF THE MOUNTAINS. SPIRIT OF PEACE is about making the journey into the destination and it truly achieves the meaning of the album title. ‘Yehung’ chants and beautiful intertwined mellow, yet complex guitars grooves make this album an ambient (or even a new age) masterpiece.
Out of print since 1985 and never released outside of Europe, now back available as a gorgeously packaged expanded double vinyl edition. This release also comes with extra tracks that were not featured on the original pressing and it features the original cover-art by Erik Wollo.
PLEASE NOTE: Orders containing SPIRIT OF PEACE and AGAPE-LOVE will be shipping after June 27th, 2017.
