This week, we are beyond excited to release a pair of posters for the Universal classics, DRACULA by Sara Deck and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON by Jason Edmiston. Both Sara and Jason delivered beautiful work that brilliantly captures the aesthetic and soul of these titans of horror.
From Sara, “With his charm, elegance and mysterious demeanor, Bela Lugosi will forever be the quintessential DRACULA. I have personally always been captivated by the imagery of DRACULA gliding through the streets of London on his way to the opera. Dressed in both his iconic cape and top hat, he rubs elbows with the elite, who are all blissfully unaware of his dark purpose. I wanted to capture the feeling of being caught in his mesmerizing gaze on that dark and foggy night. For this piece I strove to evoke the feeling of the classic Universal poster designs that we all know and love.”

From Jason, “THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON forever intrigues me. The combination of a mysterious origin, a doomed passion and a groundbreaking suit design presents a fascinating yet relatable character. He’s an easy choice as my favorite of the Universal Monsters. I created this poster by painting the portrait in acrylics. I then digitally separated the image into eight colors through a mix of transparent and opaque inks. The variant required an additional color to properly evoke the brightly painted packaging of the 1960’s Aurora Model Kits by the legendary James Bama. I love immersing myself in the classics and hope other monster kids join me as I dive into a full series celebrating these foundational films of the horror genre.”
