Mondo is proud to present the second in our Howard Shore / David Cronenberg Summer Trilogy - Dead Ringers. Following the incredible, free-form, jazzy Naked Lunch, Dead Ringers is a beast of a different color altogether: hauntingly symphonic, and bittersweet.

MONDO

Based on the novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, Dead Ringers tells the story of identical twin gynecologists—suave Elliot and sensitive Beverly, bipolar sides of one personality—who share the same practice, the same apartment, and the same women. It is a chilling tale, but a high-water mark for the shared filmography of Cronenberg and Shore.
Shore's score creates a beautiful yet mysterious atmosphere, using the beauty of a string orchestra to represent the sinister tone. Howard Shore has said that “the music in Dead Ringers works all around the edges. It’s all about subtext.” Shore won the Genie Award for the Dead Ringers score.
We are thrilled to be highlighting Dead Ringers on vinyl for the first time, and featuring original artwork by Randy Ortiz.
We love records. We love everything about them; the size, the smell, the covers. We also love those lovely brick and mortar places that sell them. Independent record shops are the very lifeblood of our industry. As much as we love selling directly to you guys on our site, we also know that lots of folks visit their local store once a week.
Earlier in the year, we decided to partner with our two main distributors - Light in the Attic (North America) & Republic of Music (UK & Europe) - to create a Mondo / Death Waltz retail program for select independent stores that have enthusiastically supported us since we started pressing vinyl. We’ll be supplying them with test pressings to give away to customers as well as stickers, pins, slipmats, shirts and other merchandise. The most exciting and fun thing, though, is creating exclusive products for them. Our first retail exclusive was the Monster Squad single; we pressed exclusive covers for both UK and USA record stores. It was super fun to see folks buying not only a copy for themselves, but for for friends halfway across the world.
With this in mind, we have created an exclusive cover for Dead Ringers for retail partners. When Randy Ortiz supplied us with two different cover options for Dead Ringers, we were torn. So we pressed both of them! The grey cover (containing 180 gram black vinyl) is only available to record stores this summer and won’t be sold online. In coming months we'll have exclusive colors, content and lots more to share with stores and their customers around the world.
Remember, a record store isn’t just for one day of the year - it’s for life!
