It’s time to get greasy!

Oh boy, every so often a film and its score comes along that is so crazy, we feel compelled to release it no matter what it takes. The Greasy Strangler is one of those films. Influenced by the films of John Waters, its shock factor is turned up to 11. A cult classic in the making, we think this will be a regular on the midnight circuit for many years to come.

The score by Andrew Hung (one half of Fuck Buttons) is an absolute mind-bender, and to celebrate the worldwide VOD release of The Greasy Stranger this weekend (10/07/2016) we are flying Andrew out to perform some live shows alongside select screenings of the film (see tour dates below).

On top of that, this week also sees the leftovers of our event version of the Phantasm soundtrack and repressing of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan available online.

As always, new releases go on sale on Wednesday at NOON CST.

Andrew Hung is a producer/composer who first came to prominence as a founding member of electronic-rock band Fuck Buttons. Since their inception in 2007, they have headlined multiple world tours and festivals including the Park Stage at Glastonbury. They have collaborated and remixed Jean-Michel Jarre, Moby and Caribou (amongst others), and featured in the opening ceremony of the Olympics 2012 which was watched by over 900 million people worldwide. In 2016, Hung collaborated with Brit Award winner Beth Orton on her album Kidsticks. The two wrote and produced the music together over the course of 2 years.

Hung was asked by director Jim Hosking to compose the soundtrack for his depraved comedy The Greasy Strangler. The film featured at Sundance’s Midnight section and drew immediate hype for its singular vision. The Fright File wrote “complementing every scene in an incalculable way is one of the most pronounced and inspired music scores and soundtracks in recent memory, an instantly catchy, appropriately playful lo-fi orgy of electronic synth compositions from Fuck Buttons band member Andrew Hung.”

Hung’s score reflects the onscreen insanity perfectly offering an extremely twisted musical electronic soundtrack reminiscent of 80s video games complete with chiptune vocals, children’s keyboards and playful bouncy beats. It’s the kind of off kilter musical styling’s you might find from the residents in some of their more delirious pop moments."

"I had such a blast making this album; it was an opportunity for my silly side to really let rip," said Hung.
