New Posters: HEREDITARY & FIRST REFORMED by Greg Ruth!
News

Tomorrow we will have two gorgeous new Greg Ruth posters for a pair of A24 films that we love dearly: FIRST REFORMED and HEREDITARY! Written and directed by the brilliant Paul Schrader and featuring an incredible performance by Ethan Hawke, FIRST REFORMED is a film that grabs you tightly and never lets go. Greg’s artwork balances the film’s combustible themes and distills them into a beautiful and visceral image.

Additionally, we’ll also have our second poster for one of our favorite films of the year: HEREDITARY. We were excited to see Greg’s approach to what we firmly believe is an instant classic of the genre and he did not disappoint in the slightest. Greg’s use of color is radiant and hypnotic and his rendering is completely top shelf. We couldn’t love this poster, or this film, more.

These posters will be available Thursday (8/23) at a random time via mondotees.com.

"The tricky bit here was to express the ideas behind the film: religion, sin, sacrifice, faith, etc., but not to do so explicitly. Essentially make a piece inspired by a movie about religion without hitting it too hard on the nose. Thankfully with the imagery from Paul Schrader’s storytelling and Ethan’s gut-twisting performance, it was about choosing among riches. There were a lot of different ways this poster could have gone, but this is the only way that expressed the film honestly without spoiling it. Capturing the likeness within the barbed wire made for one of the trickiest drawings I’ve ever had the opportunity to execute." - Greg Ruth

"More than anything else, this was Toni Collette’s film above all other concerns. Whether it’s the weight of her character’s arc or her blistering performance, this film for all its dark turns was about her fate. The sense of place and setting, and the subliminal affectations of the family were as much a character in the film as the family afflicted by them. This was an image that came fast and right away among others, and seemed to be the most unique view into this wrenchingly dark story. But giving a sense of place the same power as a portrait of a character made for a challenge right up until we reached the final stages." - Greg Ruth
