New Shirts + Pins for Brad Bird's THE IRON GIANT
News

“You are who you choose to be.”

THE IRON GIANT has always been close to our (collective) hearts. Anyone who sees Brad Bird’s directorial debut can’t help but be won over by its elegance, fun, and beauty. The affection and esteem for the film have grown in the two decades since its release, and many (including us) see the story of young Hogarth and his giant robot friend from outer space as one of the great classics of American animation.

We've recently featured THE IRON GIANT posters, vinyl soundtracks, figures, and tikis, and now we’re excited and honored to expand with a striking new shirt by artist Maggie Chiang, and four enamel pins from Tom Whalen, DKNG, and Scott C. Each are available for purchase right now in The Iron Giant Collection.

The Iron Giant T-Shirt by Maggie Chiang

This brand new t-shirt for THE IRON GIANT was crafted by artist Maggie Chiang, whose stripped-down illustration focuses on Joe Johnston's striking concept design for the towering mechanical alien.

Instead of his iconic waxed silver metal color palette, the Iron Giant is presented in bright reds & blues reminiscent of the interstellar clouds he traveled through to reach Rockwell, Maine.

"The Iron Giant is such a throwback movie to my childhood, I just had to take the opportunity to create a shirt around the iconic robot! I wanted to recreate the Iron Giant with a fresh new look using some fun modern colors." – Maggie Chiang

The Iron Giant Enamel Pins

First in our collection of new enamel pins for THE IRON GIANT – a poignant portrait of the titular giant, illustrated from a place of love.

"The Iron Giant is a near-perfect animated stew; a thoughtfully-written central cast with genuine motivations, a beautifully-designed alien, and heart-pounding action all set against the backdrop of 1950’s cold war America and executed with lush cel animation. Twenty-one years after its initial release, it remains on my Mount Rushmore of animated films." – Tom Whalen

Oh, and this pin has glow-in-the-dark eyes – charge it up under a lamp to get the full effect!

The Iron Giant Enamel Pin. Artwork by Tom Whalen. 1.2" H on 1.25" x 2.375" backing. Soft enamel on shiny silver nickel. Available to ship June 2020. Ships to addresses in the United States, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and US Military Bases. $10.

This small bolt is one of the most beloved icons from the film because of its representation of hope & perseverance – Mondo has certainly sung its praises in the past in the form of a few other faithful replicas.

It was important to us to take another thoughtful look at this piece from the film, skillfully handled by design team DKNG Studios. Their Bolt design includes glitter enamel to mimic the flashing light and layers of recessed metals to add depth on a small scale.

The Iron Giant Bolt Enamel Pin. Artwork by DKNG Studios. 1.25" H on 2"x3" backing. Soft enamel on antique nickel. Available to ship June 2020. Ships to addresses in the United States, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and US Military Bases. $10.

Scott C's illustrations have a bright, friendly energy that emanates off the page (or the pin, or the screen) and becomes contagious. He felt like a natural fit for this film, capable of capturing the charming nature of Hogarth and the Iron Giant in a way that makes metal feel warm and inviting.

The moments Scott chose from the film couldn't be more perfect – Hogarth sitting safely in the hands of his best friend and the Iron Giant making a cannonball leap into a lake.

"There was a time when all of my color palettes were inspired by the Iron Giant. I love those fall colors so much! And those pea soup skies." – Scott C.

The Iron Giant Enamel Pins. Artwork by Scott C. 1.65" H (Iron Giant) & 1.5" W (Hogarth) on 1.75" x 2" backing. Hard enamel on antique copper. Available to ship June 2020. Ships to addresses in the United States, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and US Military Bases. $10.
