This week we are thrilled to be bringing you a long lost classic you didn’t know you needed (until now!). In conjunction with our friends at VINEGAR SYNDROME, we are proud to present NEW YORK NINJA with an original score by VOYAG3R.
Initially directed by and starring martial arts actor John Liu (The Secret Rivals, Invincible Armor) in his only American production, New York Ninja was filmed entirely on 35mm in 1984, but the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials being lost over time. Thirty-five years later, Vinegar Syndrome acquired the original unedited camera negative and painstakingly constructed and completed the film.
The movie enlists the voice talents of genre favorites: Don “The Dragon” Wilson (Bloodfist, Whatever It Takes), Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead, Nightmare Sisters), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies), Vince Murdocco (Night Hunter, L.A. Wars), Matt Mitler (The Mutilator, Battle for the Lost Planet), Leon Isaac Kennedy (Lone Wolf McQuade, Penitentiary), Ginger Lynn Allen (The Devil’s Rejects, Vice Academy), and Cynthia Rothrock (China O’Brien, Martial Law). New York Ninja is finally available in all of its ridiculous, over-the-top glory for the first time, after spending nearly four decades in film obscurity.

VINEGAR SYNDROME PICTURES presents NEW YORK NINJA, a wild action-comedy originally directed by and starring John Liu and produced by legendary New York exploitation producer Arthur Schweitzer. Composed by VOYAG3R, the soundtrack brings their trademark sound of gritty synths, progressive rock and pure 80s vibes to the table, creating a dynamic, muscular score that could have easily been recorded in 1984. Still, this isn’t some soft copy of a forgotten era. VOYAG3R understand that a mere pastiche wouldn’t cut the mustard here. Hence, although loaded with authentic retro sounds straight from the 80s, the score is very much forward-thinking and firmly planted in 2021.
