We love being part of this fantastic soundtrack community, and highlighting and promoting other labels is something we genuinely love and cherish. And we are especially proud of our distributed titles program.
If you are unfamiliar (or new here), we distribute records by many labels we love (often in exclusive colorways), trying to support and promote labels and folks we admire. For 2022, we have decided to highlight one label per month in our newsletter and let them tell you what makes them unique. This month we are happy to highlight Data Discs. Their video game soundtrack releases have become some of the most sought after and respected records out there. We are so excited to be carrying copies of their latest release, the classic score to SHADOW DANCER: THE SECRET OF SHINOBI, as well as restocks of several of our favorite releases.
We asked Data Discs to tell us all a bit about themselves:
“Data Discs was founded in 2015, after waiting decades for someone to put out Streets of Rage on vinyl (we’re still surprised that no-one beat us to it). We are a small team with backgrounds in audio engineering and licensing and mainly focus on releasing archival titles from Japanese publishers. We view ourselves as a traditional indie label that just happens to focus on game music. We have our own recording/mastering studio and handle most projects in-house. We don’t release too many records, but are proud of the ones we do. We are based in London, UK. Spencer really helped us out at the beginning and Mondo has stocked almost every release since DATA001, so it’s great to be continuing our partnership to this day.”
That's not all. We have also released limited copies of our exclusive MARVEL'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - STAR-LORD BAND COMIC. Previously only available with purchase of the Official Soundtrack, this comic tells the origin story of the eponymous band that inspired the game's protagonist (who also wrote some of the best hair metal songs of the 80's). On sale now.
