‘I Cannibali’ (Aka ‘The Cannibals’, ‘The Year Of The Cannibals’) is a film directed by Liliana Cavani in 1970, freely inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone, re-setting the events in an undefined dystopic near future in a clearly recognizable Milan. Presented at the 23rd Festival de Cannes, it was described as tragic, disturbing, timeless yet harshly realistic.
Maestro Ennio Morricone curated the soundtrack, here presented for the first time in its entirety and for the first time on vinyl with the addition of 7 previously unreleased tracks. The work, conducted by Bruno Nicolai, sees the vocal participation of Don Powell and Audrey Nohra Stainton – the latter also author of the lyrics – and the legendary choir I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni.
