"In the Mood for Love is one of those subjects that can be tricky; not in the finding of an appropriate image to coalesce a design behind, but in having to pick from the astonishing deep well of potential it offers. It makes it more of a pruning exercise right away, but also affords many places to go if a second approach is needed. I adore this film entirely, and not for simply being my introduction to Wong Kar-Wai’s magnificent film catalogue, but the sheer style, visual richness and emotional honesty it delights in. Color, light and character are what it’s all about and having the opportunity to try and capture it in this way is one of my great career honors to be sure. It wasn’t easy, or simple, and it challenged us all in ways we didn’t expect, just like the film itself does so masterfully. We wanted to pursue an authentic look of those old Blue-Note and Decca LPS from the past that we all love so much and getting to play in this particular sandbox was a true gift. I got to a better place than when I started this project, ended up with a final approach that I never envisioned, and could not be happier with the result." -Greg Ruth
