"Eyvind Earle’s art is synonymous with many mid-century Disney films but most agree that SLEEPING BEAUTY is the shining star of his career. The art direction of the film was inspired by medieval tapestries with its story having French Fairy Tale roots in TALES OF MOTHER GOOSE. Eva Eskelinen’s SLEEPING BEAUTY art draws great inspiration from both of these influences, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I especially love the storybook triptych details framed in the archways at the top of the print." -Josh Manderville, Senior Art Director
"In my opinion, SLEEPING BEAUTY is one of Disney's most beautiful films and I have a lot of admiration towards the artists who contributed to it. Eyvind Earle is maybe the most famous of them, and his contribution was significant. I first discovered his art through his work as a background painter and color artist in SLEEPING BEAUTY , and I was mesmerized. The art of the film - its animation, character design and background painting- have an everlasting quality that will keep inspiring generations of artists.
I'm really happy I was given a chance to illustrate the dragon Maleficent as the centerpiece of the poster. I always enjoy drawing fantastical creatures and her design, to the credit of Ken Anderson, certainly is one of the most iconic dragons ever. Maleficent in the film, whether human or dragon, really steals the show."
