From body-snatching and mind altering science fiction to mystery-loving animated hijinks, this week we've got a little bit of everything as we recognize the recent VOD release of Brandon Cronenberg's brilliant sci-fi masterpiece POSSESSOR, as well as (virtually) honoring one of the very best conventions in the world: the mighty Thought Bubble!
First up is a new poster for Brandon Cronenberg's POSSESSOR. If you haven't seen it yet, you should really fix that. The good news is it's easy now that the film is available on VOD. POSSESSOR follows the story of Tasya Vos, an elite and deadly corporate assassin who uses classified technology to enter others' minds and bodies in order to carry out brutal murders. Cronenberg's film is visceral and completely unyielding.
We recently released a poster and LP for the film with stunning art by Randy Ortiz, and are thrilled to have partnered on a second poster with one of the greatest movie poster designers working today: Akiko Stehrenberger. Akiko's art is brilliantly arresting, and her work on this poster is no exception.
"Throughout this sci-fi psychological thriller, we follow Tasya as she disintegrates both physically and emotionally while struggling with the duality between her dangerous work (as an undercover agent) and her family. I chose a modern spin on pointillism to best illustrate the main themes I took away from POSSESSOR. The film is done quite artistically, unlike most sci-fi thrillers, so I thought a more hand-done approach might give it that grit and rawness that's also prevalent on screen." - Akiko Stehrenberger

In case you missed our recent blog post about it, tomorrow we're also releasing a handful of new posters in honor of Thought Bubble's digital comic con that is happening this weekend. We're gutted that we can't all be together this year, but highly recommend tuning in on Saturday and Sunday and taking in everything that team has put together for their digital con. It's seriously mindblowing.
You can view their schedule here, and be sure to subscribe to their YouTube channel, where all panels will be broadcast. We'll be there in spirit however, and are excited to have two new posters in tow: SCOOB! by Matt Taylor, and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE by Murugiah!
Utilizing an impossible array of colors in a shifting and surrealistic geometric landscape, Murugiah boldly redefines Kubrick's masterpiece of sci-fi delinquency. We've only just begun collaborating with Murugiah, but are absolutely stunned by his work and can't wait to see what comes next.
"'How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip-oil?’ A Clockwork Orange - something organic, made to work mechanically. The film is about one’s deepest instincts and their own human nature. It is positing that we are an aggressive species! Alex DeLarge’s feral nature and psychopathy is where I wanted to go with this poster via a colour palette that feels novel. Creating a mechanical framework housing motifs and details from Kubrick’s disturbing and masterful picture. Kubrick’s way of distorting space blends effortlessly with the subject matter and nadsat of Anthony Burgess’s novel which is another way of how I wanted to journey through this project. By the end... 'I was cured all right.’" - Murugiah
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE Screenprinted Poster. Artwork by Murugiah. 24"x36". Edition of 250. Printed by DL Screenprinting. Expected to ship in January 2021. Ships to US, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and the EU. $60.
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE Screenprinted Poster - Variant Edition. Artwork by Murugiah. 24"x36". Edition of 125. Printed by DL Screenprinting. Expected to ship in January 2021. Ships to US, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and the EU. $80.
Exactly 51 years after he hit the airwaves, Scooby Doo's legacy of creature-chasing adventure has never let up. That half-century of supernatural insanity culminates in 2020's SCOOB!, featuring an all-star cast voicing the Mystery Machine's famed passengers as well as Blue Falcon, Dyno-Mutt, Captain Caveman, Muttley and more. The dynamic Matt Taylor perfectly captures the no-rules nostalgic power of the late, great Joe Ruby & Ken Spears' enduring creations.
